Ali (Ali Suri), whose father was killed in the war, insists that he work despite his mother's objections that he stay in school. After a difficult foray into construction, he gets the chance to apprentice at a print shop if he can prove himself a better fit than a rival candidate.

Ali and his mother (Shohreh Lorestani) argue over his entering the workforce during a power outage.
Ali convinces his neighbor Yadollah (Ezatollah Solhju Mehraban) to take him to his construction site.

Ali's rival Reza suggests the two fight after work to settle the matter.
A jogger finds the boys fighting and tries to take them to the authorities.
