One Night with the King - 2006
directed by Michael O. Sajbel
This 2006 Biblical epic is the retelling of the Jewish story of Purim. It takes place during the Achaemenid Era, in which the Persian Empire, (spoken of favorably in the Bible when compared to the Egyptian and Roman Empires) is on the verge of invading Greece once again. The main character is Hadassah, a Jewish Peasant, who becomes the Queen of Persia. As result of the mostly favorable depiction that exists in the Bible, the Persians in this movie are not necessarily "the bad guys," unlike most Hollywood fare.

Xerxes' aging but loyal general Prince Memucan (legendary Arab Actor Omar Sharif) advises caution in regards to another Greek adventure.

The filmmakers' representation of a "Persian Court." It looks more like a hodgepodge of Indian, Arab, and even Medieval European cultures.

King Xerxes (Luke Goss), with the impending invasion of Greece on his mind, is embarrassed by his wife, Queen Vashti, when she refuses to join him. This sets off the search for a new Queen.

A computer generated depiction of ancient Susa.

After being chosen, Hadassah approaches her coronation. The lion statues look nothing like those that still stand at the ruins of Persepolis.

Hadassah (Tiffany Dupont) becomes Ester of Susa, the Queen of Persia and matriarch of Iranian Jews.

The King and his princes go over plans to fund the Greek campaigns. The wicked Amelekite, Haman, proposes stripping the Jews of their wealth while simultaneously exterminating them.

Hadassah's Uncle (John-Rhys Davis) has the last word as, "Mordecai, Prince of Persia, a Jew."
